Day 22

Happy 4th of July!  Went through the Holy Doors* at the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit in Bismarck, ND.  I met Msgr. Thomas Richter.  He is a wonderful man, a man of energy and joy, and in my opinion will be a Bishop someday.  I spoke with him after mass to thank him for putting me up in a hotel last night.  As I was leaving, he handed me $60 and said, "I want you to have this."  I refused, but he insisted.  I thanked him for his generous act.  I was impressed that he remembered Lee Ann's name from several days ago.  He gave a nice homily.  I told him that I wanted to say something about it on the blog. Here is an excerpt from it in the bulletin:  "Today as we celebrate the 4th of July, we realize our independence we have as a free people.  As we celebrate our freedom and independence as a nation, let us also pray that we will be one nation under God, dependent upon and grateful for His providence."

*For this Jubilee Year of Mercy, Holy Doors have been designated in certain churches by each diocese.  These doors are symbols of God's mercy, open to welcome everyone into the compassion of God's love that Christ proclaimed.

God bless America!
